Annual Benefits Enrollment is Coming!

This year’s annual benefits enrollment is quickly approaching and CAPE Union members are encouraged to plan ahead in their review of the Choices Annual Benefits Enrollment program. Choices Annual Benefits Enrollment is October 1 - October 31, 2011, for coverage as of January 1, 2012. As a reminder you will have the chance to enroll by online enrollment or telephone. Both enrollment systems will be available 24 hours a day and seven days a week over the course of the enrollment period.

If you are not already enrolled in one of the CAPE/Blue Shield medical plans, this year’s enrollment period is your opportunity to do so. 

CAPE/Blue Shield Lite and Classic Point of Service (POS) plan participants have the advantage of two of the most popular medical plans in one – HMO and PPO − at an affordable price. Both in- and out-of-network benefits are covered through the PPO, providing one the freedom to choose a doctor or hospital and the available level of service they wish.

Chiropractic, acupuncture, prescription drug, preventive care including adult and well-baby immunizations covered under the HMO, PPO, and out-of-network benefit levels at no additional cost, NurseHelp 24/7SM, and several wellness discounts and programs are all included under the CAPE/Blue Shield POS plans. 

New for 2012, in addition to the existing annual eye exam, new vision benefits include: 

• $120 allowance every 24 months for frames or contact lenses 

• Standard lenses every 12 months with a qualified prescription change as well as an improved Healthy Lifestyles Rewards program for which participants will now have just three simple steps to complete in earning up to $175!

Also new and available for 2012 enrollment the CAPE Voluntary Short Term Disability plan through Reliance Standard that pays a cash benefit during an absence from work due to a covered injury or illness at an additional low monthly cost.

The Choices Annual Benefits Enrollment packets are mailed the last week of September. If you have not received the County’s Choices packet by October 11, contact the County’s Department of Human Resources Benefit Hotline at (213) 388-9982, or log on to mylacountybenefits.com to download the Choices enrollment material.
