The California Association of Professional Employees (CAPE, AFL-CIO) is the bargaining unit for more than 2,500 professional employees of the County of Los Angeles.
We are a successful and thriving union, but a strong contract means little if members aren’t aware of our rights in the workplace and empowered to exercise them.
In this issue, we look back at the amazing work and incredible victories secured during the fall and winter of 2023, discuss helpful tips when considering retirement, and gear up for CAPE’s 60th Anniversary in 2024.
We celebrated two outstanding local election victories in November 2016. By wide margins, Janice Hahn (4th District) and Kathryn Barger (5th District) won seats on the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.
Both candidates proudly carried the endorsement of CAPE through its Political Action Committee. These two outstanding candidates are great additions to the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors and with their election, history was made. For the first time in county history, the majority of supervisors are women.
With tremendous sorrow, we announce the passing of one of CAPE’s strongest organizers, CAPE Director Brent Decker. Brent died on Thursday, Sept. 22, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Sept. 4, 2016.
The Choices Annual Enrollment is here and CAPE members are encouraged to review the 2017 health enrollment options. The open enrollment period is through Oct. 31.
CAPE member meetings to discuss these options are currently taking place. If you missed your meeting, need assistance or more information on the offerings under the Choices Annual Enrollment and on our CAPE/Blue Shield Classic and Lite POS Plan, contact the dedicated CAPE Benefit Trust customer service team at (800) 487-3092.
CAPE-represented professional employees use historical data and cost & income analysis to accurately assess property.
The Los Angeles County Assessor's Office is the agency responsible for putting a dollar figure on every piece of real and taxable personal property in the County. In recent years, that countywide figure was more than a trillion dollars - that's $1,000,000,000,000.
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors formally approved the new Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) for all six of CAPE’s L.A. County Bargaining Units on January 26th. Board of Supervisors’ approval paved the way for the County to finally administer the first pay increase of the new MOUs to CAPE members.
